One of my favorite things about the fall is to see countless houses with halloween decorations. Porches filled with fall planters, and pumpkins strategically placed to bring that traditional feel to the theme. Although the usual ghost and goblin decor screams all-hallows-eve, the versatility of such decor is pretty narrow.  As soon as October 31st has come to pass, frightening decorations don’t relay the “thankful” message that comes with the Thanksgiving holiday. Don’t get me wrong, I love the spooky decor that comes with halloween, but it’s not exactly cost effective if you’re looking to transition into the rest of the years holidays.

So what’s a girl (or guy) to do? One option is using decorations that can do double duty. This particular wreath was decorated with dollar store purple and black rose stems that had eyeballs, and spiders. It made for a great addition to the wreath already adorned with a fall design. Once November came around, the Halloween touches were removed and just like magic, I had a Thanksgiving season wreath! Another option is to keep it simple and festive without actually utilizing halloween decorations that need to be removed after the 31st. This North Carolina home featured below has kept it classy, and simple by creating an eye catching design with haystacks, and pops of color using mums. This type of decor can work for months without dealing with the clean up, and storage that comes with transitioning from Halloween to Thanksgiving.

Not only does this home have a fall porch worthy of a page in a magazine, but it goes a step further by including flowers that can be reused. Given that North Carolina is designated as a garden zone of roughly 7, these mums can even be planted out into the garden once they have finished blooming. Planting them in full sun will ensure they return in the spring healthy and ready to bloom in the fall. Now that’s making your front porch decor really work overtime!
